Room 322: Black Silicon Section

James Carey , Rebecca Younkin , and Mike Sheehy use this gas chamber to produce black silicon.

The gas chamber holds gases crucial for the production of the sharp spikes on silicon. Regular silicon is put inside the chamber and femtosecond laser pulses are directed onto the silicon surface through the chamber window. The combination of femtosecond laser pulses and gases produce the unique structures of black silicon.
